Comedy Nights Coming Up This Autumn and Winter

Saturday Night Comedy runs every week, so there’s always a show to plan around. Here’s how the season shapes up.

October Saturdays. Comedy every Saturday in October, with a new line-up each week. It’s a good way to start a weekend in town.

Halloween weekend. On Saturday 31 October, Saturday Night Comedy runs as usual. The same night, House of the South and Bournemouth Trance Family team up for a Halloween party across two rooms from 9pm. It’s a separate event with its own tickets, so you can make a full night of it.

November. Comedy continues every Saturday through November. It’s a popular month for birthdays and early work socials before the Christmas rush.

Christmas party season. Comedy Saturdays carry on into December, which makes them a great option for a Christmas night out with friends or colleagues. See what’s on for the festive season on our What’s On page.

Line-ups are added to each date’s event page once they’re confirmed. Book ahead and arrive when the doors open, as latecomers can’t be seated once the show starts.

Comedy Events for Groups and Celebrations

A comedy night is one of the easiest group nights out to organise. Everyone gets a seat, a drink and a laugh, and the club night afterwards means nobody has to decide where to go next.

Birthdays. Book a group of tickets for Saturday Night Comedy and stay on for the club night.

Work dos and Christmas parties. Comedy is a crowd-pleaser that works for teams of all sizes. Canvas also hosts Christmas party nights and private festive bookings across all three rooms.

Hen and stag dos. Comedy followed by a club night gives your group a full evening in one place. Our guide to hen and stag venues in Bournemouth has more ideas.

Bespoke events. If you want something more tailored, Glitterati Party can help plan an event around your budget, with food, music and entertainment.

Coming as a big group? Get in touch before you book and our team will help where we can.

Putting On Your Own Comedy Event in Bournemouth

Canvas isn’t just a place to watch comedy. It’s also a venue where you can put on your own comedy event, whether that’s a regular night, a one-off fundraiser or a private show for your company.

The Live Lounge stage at Canvas Bournemouth, ready for a comedy event

For promoters. Put your night on at Canvas with dry hire, our PA and house lighting, your own door and your own promotion. Tell us the date and what you’re planning.

For businesses. A private comedy night makes a memorable work party, team reward or client event. Bring your own line-up and we’ll provide the room and the bar.

For charities and fundraisers. Comedy nights are a popular way to raise money, and a venue with a proper stage and sound setup makes the night feel professional.

Here’s what each room offers:

The Live Lounge (up to 250). Our main room has a stage, a full touring-spec PA, a Yamaha M7 desk and a professional lighting rig. Extra tables, chairs, screens and projectors are available, along with buffet and canapé options.

The Balcony Bar (up to 125). It has its own bar and looks down over the Live Lounge, which suits drinks receptions and second-room takeovers.

The Green Room (up to 45). Our speakeasy-style room suits meetings, workshops and talks, and doubles as a dressing room on show nights.

Find out more on our private hire page, or get in touch with your date and plans.

How to Choose the Right Comedy Event

Bournemouth has plenty of comedy on offer, and different events suit different nights out.

Comedy club nights give you several comedians in one show, usually with a host. They’re great value, the line-up changes every week, and you’ll often discover your new favourite comedian.

Headline tour shows are built around one famous name and usually play the bigger theatres in town. Tickets usually cost more and can sell out early, but they’re ideal if you’re a fan of a particular comedian.

New material and open mic nights are usually cheaper and more unpredictable, which is part of the fun.

Private comedy events are best for work parties, fundraisers and celebrations, when you want the night to be all about your group.

Whichever you choose, check the start time, the age limit and whether the show is seated before you book.
